How PVPium Tournaments Work

Start with a player account

PVPium tournaments are built around player accounts, not anonymous entries. When you create an account, the system stores your trainer name, friend code, Discord name if you add one, and login details. That profile lets the tournament pages know which events you have joined, which match rooms you can access, and which results belong to you. Your dashboard then becomes the quickest place to find active tournaments, upcoming matches, completed events, and bye rounds.

Open tournaments are created by admins

Admins create tournaments from the admin panel and choose the league, format, registration mode, team rules, player cap, and round duration. A tournament usually appears publicly once it is open, and players can join from this page or from the tournament detail page. Some events approve registrations automatically, while others leave new signups pending until an admin approves them. If a tournament asks for a team, the detail page shows a team editor after you join. Required-team events can remove players who do not submit a complete team before the tournament starts, because the pairing system expects eligible approved players.

The site supports several formats in the admin interface. Round Robin (League) means everyone plays everyone, while Swiss pairs players round by round. Team vs Team events work differently: admins assign each player to a squad and Pair 1-4, then choose two squads for the round. A complete pair slot has two players on each squad and creates four cross matches. In that format, teams and pair assignments lock once the round is generated and the round timer starts.

Matches happen in private rooms

When pairings are generated, each match gets its own room. Only the two players in that match can open the public match room, copy friend codes, coordinate in chat, and submit a score. Scores do not count the instant one player reports them. A reported score waits for the opponent to confirm it, or the opponent can dispute it for admin review. Admins can also confirm or adjust a match result from the admin panel. This keeps the tournament table from changing based on one-sided reports.

Completed tournaments build the Global Ranking

The Global Ranking beside the tournament list is calculated from completed tournament results. Each match win gives 3 points, then final placement adds a tournament-size bonus. Game score changes the standings tie-breakers, but a 2-0 and 2-1 match win both give the same 3 match points.

Active tournaments can show provisional tournament points on their detail page, but global ranking points are saved only when an admin finishes the tournament or a bracket completes automatically. If a completed result is corrected later, PVPium updates the same player+tournament result instead of counting the tournament twice.
